In a previous life he lived on a different coast. He had a different life. A life of law and order. He was raised in a conservative household. Nixon supporters. Korean War veteran father on his second wife, his only child from his pair of marriages. He died when Eli was five. Heart attack. He was a cold, hard man and Eli only missed him for a short time. His mother was a housewife. Mostly silent but she loved her only child. He toed the line. Well-behaved, following the rules, keeping appearances up. After high school he became a police officer. Put in a few good years on the force, eventually made detective. He was good at what he did and he enjoyed the feeling of helping others. On a vacation one year some time around the turn of the century, he went on a hunting trip in Maine with some friends. After a week, they left with something they thought was Eli. Eli, however, went somewhere entirely different.
He was taken somewhere completely alien. Something most mortals never see. An island, split down the middle. One side light, another dark. The realm of The Twins, Lord Daybreak and Lady Nightfall. The side he was taken to was dark. Always dark. He spent the better part of fifteen years under the sway of Lady Nightfall and eventually escaped his dark hell during a reprieve when neither twin ruled. When he emerged he had thoughts only of home. He was found coming from the Hedge and given some pocket money by one of the Lost. Then he headed west. Home. To find he had been replaced. In the five years since he's joined the Winter Court. He's killed his own Fetch. He's become a Duke of Truth and Loss. And he returns now to where this new life started. Maybe to search for answers. Maybe because it feels something like home.
Gone for about fifteen years, out in the world for five. A Darksoul Fairest.
A member of the Winter Court since soon after he escaped.
Duke of Truth and Loss
