Introduction

xxxxxThis page is an introduction to the types of Demons we use here on Fallcoast. Every Demon fits into the categories contained on this page. This page is intended to guide a player to the pages of Inferno and is not a reprint of the game contained therein.

xxxxxWhy do we need a guide? To date, we have had a lot of unintentional abuses, especially of Whisperers. This makes the setting confusing when one set of people have one expectation, and another set of people have another expectation. When in doubt, inquire with Staff.

Whisperers

What are Whisperers?

  1. ) A Rank 0 Demon
  2. ) May have been a Dominion, Larval (Ghost) or Immundi (Spirit)
  3. ) Is not an Ephemeral
  4. ) Cannot be summoned, bound, or warded
  5. ) Can be drawn to the Lure they possessed previously
  6. ) Cannot force you to do anything, or directly harm you.
  7. ) Cannot be seen; I See Demons will register as a sensation or feeling, revealing that there is a Whisperer present, if and when it acts.

xxxxxWhile an old ghost, powerful spirit, or an infernal lord can be quite a powerhouse in Hell, Twilight or the Shadow, a Whisperer is not even a touch in the material world. In fact, a Whisperer is often nothing more than your own inner voice. It is that monologue we all use. It is that voice that says: "No, hey, that's ok. Give it a shot!" It is that suggestion when we really want something we would be better off without.

xxxxxThey are a presence that can make what takes place seem important to you. Are you having a dream? A Whisperer can, for lack of a better word, whisper to you, causing your dream to turn disturbing in that process as you dream of disturbing things. They are that voice that says it is ok to cut that guy off in traffic. They are the cause of road rage. Or that voice that tells the postal worker to bring a gun to work. They are the coincidence that puts you in the same line as the woman your husband cheated with, it’ll be ok to cause a scene, go ahead, you have the right to confront her.

xxxxxA Whisperer can even make writing seem more important. As you read an email, the whisperer can suggest a double meaning. Is your boss making a veiled threat? You should fire back an accusation. This is coercion at the most primordial level of conscious thought, but you have to choose to listen. All on its own, nobody has to obey that voice, or agree with that thought.

Manifestation Examples

  • These banking transactions that are leaving out percents of a penny each time. If I put them all into an account nobody will notice. After all, who cares about an 8th of a penny?
  • I should go get a knife and mark you up. You been talking to that boy at the grocery store again. I’ll make it so he can’t even look at you.
  • I am going to do it. Today is the day I make him look bad. He will get up in front of everyone at the meeting and talk down to us when he has no idea what we go through in my department. Well, screw him. When he turns on his presentation and it is pictures of him sleeping with his secretary in the copy room. He is going to get what he deserves.
  • Did that guy just cut me off? His ass is mine! I got a gun in the glove box that will prove you do not fuck with me!
  • We have to kill these guys. They are evidence of what we did here. We can’t let the colonel know what happened. We have to make it look like they hung themselves.

Clarifications

xxxxxWhisperers are not an Ephemeral, and are by far the weakest form of Demon. Even if your Demon is a pit lord, he has to come down off his high Rank chair, shed his power to 0, and turn into the most subtle of creatures, if he wants to enter the world without being summoned - it is the only way for him to enter the world without being summoned. In this grossly weakened form, a Demon can drift into the world and whisper to people, which is power untold from a certain perspective. But while the Demon is here, he is not there, and his chair is in jeopardy by the jealousy of other Demons.

xxxxxThis is the entire basis of Possession and most of the Possessed should start out as someone who is subject to the whims of a Whisperer. Most Demons will shed themselves to 0, come into the world as a Whisperer, encourage a person to write their Testament, and right as they gain Rank 1, gaining the Supreme Possession numen, they will activate it and jump into their host before they are drawn back into Hell. Then, in the body of a mortal, directly in contact with the material world, they can act and grow inside their host, achieving Rank 2 and 3 and more.

xxxxxThis is the lifecycle of a Demon and why there are Possessed. We often think that every use of Supreme Possession comes from a summoning. It does not. The vast majority of Supreme Possession uses comes from being a sneaky, opportunistic bastard and Whisperer.

xxxxxA Whisperer has no form, there are no pentagrams drawn on the floor, and there are no displays of omnipotence. They have no Influence to roll. But they do have the ability to go anywhere their Lure draws them. Nothing bars their travel. With no form, even their Ban and Bane become irrelevant, which from a certain point of view is absurdly powerful. There is nothing to ban, and nothing for their weakness to interact with. They are, in this state, just a feeling, or the bit of logic behind the conclusion you come to.

Rules

  1. ) The Whisperer is the default state of all Demons outside of Hell.
  2. ) The Whisperer has no active (currently used) Mythology, Testament, Name, or Hierarchy documentation. The moment they come to light, whether someone they are whispering to a librarian who writes their info down, or to an archeologist who uncovers it on a clay tablet in a tomb, they achieve Rank 1 again and all the benefits and drawbacks they usually possess return.
  3. ) The Whisperer cannot be summoned until they achieve Rank 1.
  4. ) The Whisperer cannot be contained or barred until they achieve Rank 1.
  5. ) The Whisperer has only a Malapraxis, no Influences, Numen, Manifestation Effects, Bans or Banes: only a Malapraxis.
  6. ) The Whisperer must achieve Rank 1 before it can interact with a Desecration Rating and become a Malus Loci.
  7. ) When a Whisperer leaves Hell it arrives at a particular person, location, or thing where a heinous sin or evil act that relates to its Malapraxis has taken place, such as the site of a loss of a Morality dot of 5 or less. Whisperers are not autonomous but parasitic and will attach to anyone present that is about to gain a derangement, taking the derangement’s place.
  8. ) When a character is about to gain a Derangement for Morality loss, they may gain a Whisperer instead. More than one Whisperer can attach itself in this way. If you gain a Derangement for losing Morality 5, and again at 4, and again at 3, and again at 2, a veritable legion of Whisperers may be attached to you.
  9. ) When a Whisperer is attached to a person it cannot read minds or gain secret knowledge, per se. Instead, it is acutely aware of every single thought that takes place and is present in every way the victim is. How we perceive the world is how the Whisperer perceives the world. If a person has a Whisperer, their thoughts are the Whisperer’s thoughts.

xxxxxA Demon can become a Whisperer at any time. This is a power that all Demons possess. It is a guise, a way to hide their true self, and a means to enter the world where their usual means has not worked. (In other words they have not been given special attention by man and summoned, in whatever form that summoning takes place.)

  • A Demon may voluntarily become a Whisperer at any time, and requires no roll to do so. This should be considered a Reflexive action.
  • A Demon may voluntarily reduce its Rank to 0 while using Supreme Possession, breaking the numen and allowing the Demon to leave freely and to be drawn into a new host (see below) or to return to Hell.
  • A Demon who undergoes a successful exorcism loses a point of Infernal Rank which must be regained by usual methods.
  • It is unknown whether a Demon who is reduced to Rank 0 through repeated exorcisms merely becomes a Whisperer until it rebuilds its power, or if it is permanently destroyed. Studies are inconclusive.
  • Diaboli have their own ways of becoming a Whisperer (see below).

Evolution

xxxxxBecoming a Whisperer is relatively easy. But how do you evolve from a Whisperer into something more (again)?

  • Evil Acts: Each time a host checks to see if a point of Morality is lost add 2 to the Resistance of a Whisperer to attempts to dislodge it. Whisperers begin with 1 dot of Resistance, but this grows with each evil act. When a victim commits more evil acts than their Resolve, the Whisperer may choose:
    • To stay a Whisperer with this host.
    • To abandon this host and become a Whisperer in another, when the next appropriate sin lures it.
    • To become Infernal Rank 1, abandoning the host and returning to Hell, possessing their host if they have Supreme Possession, choosing another host with the same, or they may choose to creep into a Desecration Rating and become a Malus Loci.
      • When a Whisperer chooses to become Rank 1 (again), the person, their location, or an important item to them, gains 1 Rating of Desecration. A horrible moment takes place when all present are subject to mad visions and a rush of knowledge, imparting the Demon’s secret name, their sign, and their chosen sin. Former hosts must make a Morality roll. Failure strikes her with a severe derangement.
  • Exaltation: A Whisperer can encourage a host to name her, define her, and empower her. This teaches the host the secret name of the Whisperer and most hosts can be persuaded or driven to create a working Testament.
    • Successfully creating a new Testament allows the Whisperer to obtain (again) Rank 1 or more. It may abandon the host and return to Hell, possess the host with Supreme Possession, choose another host with the same Numen, or may creep into a Desecration Rating, transforming it into a Malus Loci.

xxxxxDemons rarely use the power to return to a Whisperer, but they never lose this power either, even under the effects of a ward, or contained in a trap. Exaltation and Supreme Possession allow Demons to gain Infernal Rank in similar ways, and both are, ultimately, the surefire way to rise amongst the Legions of Demons into a true power. A Demon who is Rank 3 today, through Exaltation, or growing within a Possessed, may return to Hell a Rank 4 tomorrow. The Rank 5 of a Possessed may wish to grow beyond its host’s bonds and return to Hell as a Rank 6, abandoning the poor sap it used.

xxxxxUsing this power can have consequences. For example, if the person who has bound you knows you, and you reduce yourself to a Whisperer, they need merely use their knowledge to force you into a Rank 1 form again, subjecting you to all the usual rules for summoning therein, simply by authoring a new Testament.

Imagery

xxxxxDo you have a monkey on your back? A devil on your shoulder? These help our conception of what a Whisperer is like. A Whisperer is free to portray itself. A devout monk who undergoes intense internal debate on the wages of sin and evil of vice might do so with a Whisperer who speaks to them in an actual voice. That may seem a foreign concept to you, but imagine if you will how you talk to yourself every day, convincing yourself to choose this, or avoid that. “No, that M&Ms is bad, put it back. I need that like I need a hole in the head.” Imagine if you will: “You want that M&M.” “No, I really d...” “Just take it.” “No!” “Sally, I said take it. Or I will become very cross.” “Yes, Usiel. I am sorry...”

xxxxxA Whisperer can also portray itself as delusion, madness, or the symptoms of schizophrenia. Whatever their form, the presentation is an exploitation of the victim’s own belief system. So whether you believe in spirit guides, or angels, the Beast of a vampire, or the daimon of a Mage, a Whisperer can portray itself as anything, even an alien or time traveller.

Powers

xxxxxWhisperers have the following powers. These are contained in Inferno, pg 55. These offer no control over the world, or even a person’s senses. Instead, they offer ways to twist things so that we must make moral choices and immoral decisions.

  • Aura of Corruption: The Desecration Resonance tends to follow Demons, regardless of Infernal Rank. See Desecration.
  • Dark Whispers - a Whisperer can speak directly to any mind they are connected to, awake or dreaming. This can be any voice, foreign or the victim’s own internal monologue. A victim may choose to dismiss this voice for a Scene, after which it returns again.
  • The Dragon’s Tongue: Demons understand every language, past, present, future, regardless of location, race, or creed. They may likewise converse in their own tortured glossolalia which can be learned with a Merit. In an odd bit of legerdemain they may translate a language their host does not understand into one that they will, such as reading an ancient tablet, and hearing the words in English in your mind.
  • Faint Visions - a Whisperer can suggest a victim fantasize, awake or dreaming. Do you dream of romance novel covers and being swept away by a pirate captain? The Whisperer can encourage you to dream, and voice the captain. Do you pretend at work you are telling someone off? The whisperer can present the fantasy that you are, and voice you doing so. These cannot distract you, and cannot be horrific or disgusting. They must be what you fantasize, and the Whisperer merely uses Dark Whispers in tandem with your fantasy. A victim may choose to dismiss this voice for a Scene, after which it returns again.
  • Inner Deception - A Whisperer can attempt to convince you they are a product of your own mind, masquerading as symptoms of mental illness. When using Inner Deception, the Whisperer has all of your Social Skill dice pools with a bonus of +1 to use on you at will. Because these are actual contested rolls, a victim cannot choose to dismiss Inner Deception for the Scene, and must instead succeed at resisting the individual Social Skills used. The more skilled you are, Merits included, the more difficult you might find it to not believe your own lies.
  • I See Demons - In the case of a Whisperer, the Aura of the victim will present all the usual colors of madness (Derangement). Only the I See Demons of a Possessed can sense a Whisperer and only when it is using one of these powers.
  • Keeper of Secrets: No supernatural power can penetrate the thoughts of a Demon. Powers can sense the presence of Demons, but can never peer inside their thoughts and motives.
  • Lord of Lies: No supernatural power can detect the lies of a Demon, regardless of it being blatant, a half-truth, or a deception. No spell or ability cna pierce this lordship over falsehoods.
  • Sense of Sin: A Whisperer’s Malapraxis allows it to sense every instance that Vice is used in a sin, past and present, and with some degree of accuracy, future instances. E.g., what could push you to sin again.
  • Minor Shaping: A Whisperer can create openings and opportunities to sin. Whether that web link suddenly seems like a good idea to click, or the fact the librarian is turned and the door to the private collections is ajar, things can fall into place through minor shaping to afford you the opportunity to do something you will regret. NOTE: The Whisperer who uses Minor Shaping cannot PREDICT what an opportunity or opening will be, but they can SENSE the entirety of the situation once it is brought into being. Their Sense of Sin enables them to know precisely what about the situation might violate a victim’s Morality. Minor Shaping is special in that once it is invoked it cannot be used again until after the victim is forced to check for Morality degeneration. After a degeneration check is made, whether it had to do with a successful use of Minor Shaping or not, Minor Shaping is available again to the Whisperer to use, but not before.

Weaknesses

xxxxxWhisperers are dark distortions over people’s lives. A faint foulness that leaves a Resonance of Desecration behind, related to the Vice of the Whisperer.

  1. ) Supernatural powers attuned to sensing sin, evil, or reading minds and auras, can sense the presence of a Whisperer in the form of Morality loss, Derangements, etc., but this does not provide any kind of a Whisperer-Sense. More it is being attuned to the process as it happens.
  2. ) The I See Demons power of a Possessed cannot see a Whisperer, but does detect the use of the above abilities.
  3. ) A Whisperer that is discovered can be directly opposed with an Abjuration or Exorcism. The Whisperer must be known as there. A guessed Abjuration or guessed Exorcism holds no power over them.
  4. ) A Whisperer can be removed by any supernatural power that frees a host from Influences, or which restores a lost point of Morality, such as the Sin-Eater Merit or some other form of atonement.
  5. ) A Whisperer attempting to resist any attempt to deal with it has 1 dice for Resistance.

xxxxxA Whisperer leaves no other real trace.

Immundi

What Are Immundi?

  1. ) Spirits that carry a demonic essence.
  2. ) Spirits in which a set of abilities have grown in response to evil actions or the presence of the Desecration Resonance.
  3. ) Are typically Spirits of Vice.
  4. ) Come from choirs that are themed with terror or impurity.
  5. ) Can live in Wounds in the Shadow.
  6. ) Can be Maeljin or Goetic Demons from Werewolf and Mage.
  7. ) Can shapeshange to reflect its favorite sins or can make itself appear as a perfectly normal Spirit.
  8. ) Have no special aura or other significant indicator of their demonic nature.
  9. ) Diaboli can be contained in Testaments just like any Demon and most sources of Demonknow will not differentiate between a Dominion or a Diaboli.
  10. ) Diaboli have never been to Hell.
  11. ) Diaboli have a Malapraxis.

So Where Do Immundi Come From?

xxxxxA Whisperer, under the Lure of an evil act (a sin) turns a Spirit into a Diaboli the instant the Spirit is subjected to that sinful act, or meets the presence of a Desecration Resonance. The Whisperer arrives in the Spirit, as it would a mortal, but rather than bonding with the Spirit and replacing a Derangement gained through Morality loss, the Whisperer activates the Spirit as a Diaboli before passing back to Hell.

xxxxxAfter turning, the Spirit-now-Diaboli continues to roam its native Shadow (entering and exiting Twilight as it would ordinarily), searching for more instances of the same evil, whether they are other Spirits, or people.

Evolution

xxxxxCreating a Diaboli is relatively easy, requiring just an evil act and a Whisperer's presence. But how do you evolve from a Diaboli into something more?

  • Evil Act: Whenever a Desecration Rating is created, any Spirit that encounters it, once it is transformed by a Whisperer and an evil act, may transform into a Malus Loci when the Spirit possesses the subject of the sin, be it an object or a place.
    • For example, an ordinary fetish can become a Malus Loci when it is used to create a Desecration Rating, and the spirit that is contained therein is triggered into a Diaboli by a Whisperer drawn to the Lure of the evil act.
    • For example, a mass grave of torture victims which becomes a Wound gains a Desecration Rating as more bodies are added by people under the influence of Whisperers. The Spirit of the place is triggered into a Diaboli by a Whisperer, transforming it into a Malus Loci.
  • Sinful Fall: As a form of Demon an Immundi Diabolus possesses the ability to become a Whisperer (see above). As a Whisperer, a Diaboli can become a Dominion. The rules change a little:
    • Transcendence Through Sin: A Diaboli just needs a number of actions to take place, either through its set-up, or in its direct presence, for it to become a Dominon of Infernal Rank 1. (Whisperers need the person they possess to achieve this. Immundi need anyone, as a result of their suggestion, to perform the act, and the act does not even require their presence.) On Fallcoast, the number of acts must be equal to the Rank of the Demon when it is not in the guise of a Whisperer, +1. A Rank 4 Spirit therefore needs, as a Whisperer, to be connected to 5 evil acts to trigger its transformation.
    • Occult Exaltation: Immundi Diaboli want a Secret Name - and they do not have one. Providing a name to an author, the Spirit can encourage a Testament to be authored. Use the systems on p. 30. Remember that the demon’s current Infernal Rank penalizes the occultist’s roll. Once the Testament is written, and the Spirit has a Secret Name, it becomes a Dominion.

Powers

xxxxxDiaboli have the following powers in addition to their own.

  • Aura of Corruption: The Desecration Resonance tends to follow Diaboli, regardless of Rank. See Desecration.
  • The Dragon’s Tongue: Diaboli understand every language, past, present, future, regardless of location, race, or creed. They may likewise converse in their own tortured glossolalia which can be learned with a Merit.
  • I See Demons - In the case of a Diaboli, the Aura of the Spirit will present all the usual colors, and Gifts used to sense the unnatural will fail to show the seed of sin within. Only the I See Demons of a Possessed can sense a Diaboli and only when it is using one of these powers.
  • Infernal Rank - A Diabolus possesses the same Infernal Rank as it does Rank.
  • Intellect - A Diabolus has a complex, twisted genius and possesses empathy. Diaboli understand the motivations and moral questions that mankind grapples with.
  • Keeper of Secrets: No supernatural power can penetrate the thoughts of a Diaboli. Powers can sense the presence of Diaboli, but can never peer inside their thoughts and motives.
  • Lord of Lies: No supernatural power can detect the lies of a Diaboli, regardless of it being blatant, a half-truth, or a deception. No spell or ability cna pierce this lordship over falsehoods.
  • Numina: Diaboli always possess the Hellform Numen, which takes the place of one of their own Numen when they are turned into Diaboli.
  • Sense of Sin: A Diaboli's Malapraxis allows it to automatically sense every instance that Vice in a range a Storyteller feels appropriate.
Larval

What Are Larval?

  1. ) Ghosts that carry a demonic presence.
  2. ) Ghosts in which a set of abilities have grown in response to evil actions or the presence of the Desecration Resonance.
  3. ) Are typically associated with violence, cruelty, torture, perversion, and evil acts.
  4. ) Possess a Malapraxis.
  5. ) Can shapechange to reflect the Vice of their Malapraxis.
  6. ) Have no special aura or other significant indicator of their demonic nature.
  7. ) Are a form of Diaboli and can be contained in Testaments just like any Demon and most sources of Demonknow will not differentiate between a Dominion or a Larval Diaboli.
  8. ) Have never been to Hell.

xxxxxLarval are often the source of your worst haunting stories. Once like any ghost, often mindlessly repeating itself over and over, through the corruption of a Whisperer in the presence of evil acts, a Larval is created. With newfound cunning and sinful abilities, these ghosts, these Larvals, begin an active campaign of unspeakable evil. Whether subtle or overt, they all seek the same thing: to have their names written down in Testament, providing them with an evolution into a Dominion, or a true Demon.

xxxxxLarval cannot be distinguished from any Ghost. It takes observation and piecing together the whole picture for a researcher to point out their Demon nature. By then, it is often too late, a new Dominion has been born.

So Where Do Larval Come From?

xxxxxA Whisperer, under the Lure of an evil act (a sin) turns a Ghost into a Diaboli the instant the Ghost is subjected to that sinful act, or meets the presence of a Desecration Resonance. The Whisperer arrives in the Ghost, as it would a mortal, but rather than bonding with the Ghost and replacing a Derangement gained through Morality loss, the Whisperer activates the Ghost as a Diaboli before passing back to Hell.

xxxxxMyth suggests that anyone who has ever entered a demonic pact, or is unrepentant of their evil in life, becomes a Larval upon death. This may or may not be true and would require investigation.

xxxxxAfter turning, the Ghost-now-Diaboli continues to haunt its native Twilight (using whatever Manifestation Effects it sports as it would ordinarily), searching for more instances of the same evil, whether performed by other Ghosts, or people.

xxxxxA Larval Diaboli can operate for years, creating new deaths and new ghosts to infect with the sickness of sin. Even if it loses all of its Anchors it continues being a Diaboli and in the Underworld can continue to spread its sin.

Evolution

xxxxxCreating a Larval is relatively easy, requiring just an evil act and a Whisperer's presence. But how do you evolve from a Larval into a Dominion?

  • Evil Act: Whenever a Desecration Rating is created, any Ghost that encounters it, once it is transformed by a Whisperer and an evil act, may transform into a Malus Loci when the Ghost possesses the subject of the sin, be it an object or a place.
    • For example, the Anchor of a Ghost can become a Malus Loci when it is used to create a Desecration Rating, and the Ghost affiliated has been seeded by a Whisperer, becoming a Larval.
    • For example, an old asylum is haunted by a ghost who in life murdered many patience, and in death, creates even more. A Whisperer comes along, seeding the sin, the Ghost becoming a Larval, the asylum becoming a Malus Loci with a Desecration Rating.

  • Sinful Fall: As a form of Demon a Larval Diabolus possesses the ability to become a Whisperer (see above). As a Whisperer, a Diaboli can become a Dominion. The rules change a little:
    • Transcendence Through Sin: A Larval just needs a number of actions to take place, either through its set-up, or in its direct presence, for it to become a Dominon of Infernal Rank 1. (Whisperers need the person they possess to achieve this. Larval need anyone, as a result of their suggestion, to perform the act, and the act does not even require their presence.) On Fallcoast, the number of acts must be equal to the Rank of the Demon when it is not in the guise of a Whisperer, +1. A Rank 2 Ghost therefore needs, as a Whisperer, to be connected to 3 evil acts to trigger its transformation.
    • Occult Exaltation: Larval Diaboli want a Secret Name - and they do not have one. Providing a name to an author, the Ghost can encourage a Testament to be authored. Use the systems on p. 30. Remember that the demon’s current Infernal Rank penalizes the occultist’s roll. Once the Testament is written, and the Ghost has a Secret Name, it becomes a Dominion.

Powers

xxxxxLarval have the following powers in addition to their own.

  • Aura of Corruption: The Desecration Resonance tends to follow Larval, regardless of Rank. See Desecration.
  • The Dragon’s Tongue: Larval understand every language, past, present, future, regardless of location, race, or creed. They may likewise converse in their own tortured glossolalia which can be learned with a Merit.
  • I See Demons - In the case of a Larval, the Aura of the Ghost will present all the usual colors, and Arcanum used to sense the unnatural will fail to show the seed of sin within. Only the I See Demons of a Possessed can sense a Larval and only when it is using one of these powers.
  • Infernal Rank - A Larval possesses the same Infernal Rank as it does Rank.
  • Intellect - A Larval has a complex, twisted genius and possesses empathy. While a Ghost may ordinarily just be a repeat of its death or something similar, a Larval is intelligent and understands the motivations and moral questions that mankind grapples with.
  • Keeper of Secrets: No supernatural power can penetrate the thoughts of a Larval. Powers can sense the presence of Larval, but can never peer inside their thoughts and motives.
  • Lord of Lies: No supernatural power can detect the lies of a Larval, or whether it is shapeshifted, regardless of it being blatant, a half-truth, or a deception, or a monstrous form. No spell or ability cna pierce this lordship over falsehoods.
  • Numina: Larval always possess the Hellform Numen, which takes the place of one of their own Numen when they are turned into Larval.
  • Sense of Sin: A Larval's Malapraxis allows it to automatically sense every instance that Vice in a range a Storyteller feels appropriate. Tied to their Anchors their ability to travel can be limited, but they can always become a Whisperer and move to the source of the sin affiliated with the Vice even as it is happening.
Claimed

What Are Claimed?

xxxxxClaimed get an honorable mention because of Larval and Immundi. A Spirit or Ghost with the Claimed Manifestation Effect can lay claim permanently to, and merge with, any person, place, or thing. If a Larval wishes to Claim a man, the man remains aware as he becomes demonically transformed over the course of days. This can create horrible monsters that make the Possessed look like mewling brats.

xxxxxNot only does the physical form become stronger, mutating in appearance, it can become a powerhouse, able to use Influence, and to develop supernatural powers (see Staff). Even the inanimate, like a knife, becomes a fully animate creature, finding ways to move that would seem unbelievable to witnesses.

  • Desecration: All Claimed have a Desecration Rating equal to the Infernal Rank of the Diaboli that used the Manifestation Effect, even after the Effect ends.

xxxxxSomeone who was Claimed is largely physically and mentally scarred by the experience. While their physical form may return over days, they are often left with Flaws, Derangements and the Vice of the entity that Claimed them.

  • Destruction: Anything inanimate subject to a Claimed Effect loses one point of Structure per three days. When Structure reaches 0, the subject will disintegrate, ejecting the Claiming Diaboli into Twilight. The Relic power Unbreakable prevents this disintegration.
Merits

Merits

xxxxxCan my Merits be demonic???

xxxxxWhile it may be fun to play with a Ghost Ally that is really a Larval, or a Claimed Retainer, or some other crazy thing, all of this is largely the provence of Storytelling and Merits possessed by Player Characters may not directly use anything on this page. The exceptions here are that Retainers may be Possessed, and Animal Familiar, Imps, and Twilight Familiars can be demonic in nature as per the rules outlined elsewhere on the Wiki.
