Sarah, Shyla Texts: Matteo, Mikhail

25 March, 2017

What did you do on Spring Break?

Location

St. John's University

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "It's time! Time for Fallcoast to wake up to itself and listen to the coolest, hip and happening radio show that this town can get reception for. Unfortunately, it's been postponed so you'll have to listen to SASS instead. I'm Sarah and, as always...except for last week...is my lovely co-hostess with the mostess, Shyla. So what shall we talk about tonight? Oh, I know. Spring Break just finished so why don't you tell us what you got up to and what is the address of the website where your topless shots are located. Even if you didn't have a Spring Break, why not tell us some of the crazy stuff you used to? First song for tonight is a weird one. If you ever catch the video, you'll learn that knights used to wear pyjama bottoms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ai7iTqXjVI8

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla clears her throat slightly, then goes, "Hello Fallcoast, this is, of course, Shyla. And that song was... indeed pretty weird as Sarah warned. "Tears on Fire" by Ariel Pink and Weyes Blood. Yeah, I know, the correct reaction is "Huh?" . And yes, topless... oh heck, even bottomless.. links would be quite appreciated. At any rate, here's a more, normal, song." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuADd70pVPY

TXT From Mikhail - a link that displays Mik doing a naked cannon ball into a large hole cut into the ice of some frozen lake. Beers bottles can be seen nestled into the snow nearby.

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was Chainsmokers and Coldplay with 'Something Just Like This'. Very up to date. But that's what our Shyla is all about. Modern. Hip. Sexy. So what did you do for Spring Break, Shyla? Especially on the 17th March...just plucked that date out of the air. Ooh, we have a text slash link from one of our regulars. It looks like he was doing cannon balls through ice holes into a frozen lake. Hmm...oh...he's naked. I didn't notice that earlier because he's doing cannon balls into a frozen lake. I understand that can affect appearances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlF1KxtArCg

TXT From Matteo - http://fargosisters.com/serendipity/uploads/tumblr_lpjandZeWk1qg17fuo1_500.jpg

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla hmmms, "That's "Drinkee" by Sofi Tukker. And yeah, I did see that cannon ball guy jumping into the frozen lake. Brrrr, I would hate doing that. I mean, the cold doesn't really bother me much, but jumping into ice-cold water sounds like torture to me. Gosh, certain parts of me are getting all... well, just the thought of it, ouch!" There's some odd clicks that sounds like someone is messing with a phone, then Shyla's voice returns, "Oh! I totally didn't .. we didn't celebrate your birthday on March 17th! I'm so so sorry, I'm a horrible friend and roommate, O.M.G. There's no excuse..." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44fVZ3LP1ZI

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was 'Apology' from 'The Book of Life' movie and it is accepted, thanks Shyla." Is that a little sniffle? "Anyway, I got another text from a new guy and...umm...not sure I can even show Shyla this one. It's a stripper, a pole, and a lot of cash. I wonder if the stripper is the person who sent the text? Or was that what they were watching for Spring Break? Who knows but thanks for the pic." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wtfhZwyrcc

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla singsongs, "That's "Believer" by Imagine Dragons, and yes, if you watched the video, you might recognize Dolph Lundgren of "Rocky IV" fame. Damn he looks good for an old guy! And come on, show me the pic- oh... that's a nice photo." There's a slight pause, and her voice changes pitch. Serious Shyla. "And changing gears here, this is a request for a song that might help those of you who feel that you are in a dark place, that there's nothing left for you. Just remember, that isn't true, and that the world is a better place with you in it." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Otg-5p7qug

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was Matthew West with 'Mended'. Hopefully that helps whoever was in a bit of a rut. Just remember that, no matter how bad life gets, it's better than the alternative. And that's coming from a witch. I think we should play party songs for the rest of the show, Shyla. There's enough misery in the world as it is." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InBiaRBUjUs

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla 's voice sounds like she's smiling a little, "Yes, let's play fun songs, even the odd ones that you somehow find out there. You just played the Pet Shop Boys performing "Love, etc". I always thought them boys are strange... but in a good way! Old people in the 80s are a fun bunch, even if they still make music in the late 2000s! Here's something as far from the 80s as you could get, literally and in 'feel'." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd8RszKyM1Q

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was 'I Found You' by Fraser Murray from the 'Lego Batman's soundtrack. Very sixties in a way. Not that I was there so it's probably what we /think/ the sixties sounds like but anyone in the sixties would have no idea what we're talking about." A pause. "That make sense? And what do you mean I find odd songs?" That tone had a pout in it. "Okay, here's a happy non-weird song. It's non-weird, right?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj8kMmUxkSE

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla giggles for the first time tonight, which is odd, "Ok ok, it's non-weird. And yes, I'm making air quote, people. That was ELO with "Don't Bring Me Down", a classic if I ever heard one! I wonder if they have club remixes of that so... oh I already see a whole bunch! Wait! Wait! Put down that frying pan, Sarah, I'm not going to play any of it! Sheesh!" A few clicks of what must be a mouse, "AAAAaaaand here is a song that... well, I didn't follow it on March 17th, but I swear from now on... Well, I promise!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAEYWZvBKZM

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was When In Rome with 'The Promise' (O.N. Mix). Another slice of 80s goodness. Is there any radio station that plays as much diversity as us? I think not. From the 40s to the 10s, we play anything we like...and a lot of requests we don't like. And, yes, Shyla is getting me all blubbery with her apologies. Imagine how much trouble I'll be in if I forget /her/ birthday on April 1. As in, this coming Saturday. Should we do a birthday show, Shyla, or shall I take you somewhere? While she thinks on that, here's a song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeXG9-wyzw0 Not a classic but it bounces along.

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla hmmms, "Yeaaaaaahhh... I wonder why I would ever think Sarah's choices in music are.. unique. That was Disheenhiz ... no, I mean, DS.. ok, it's D-S-C-H-I-N-G umm, wait, H-I-N-G-H-I-S Khan, with their song "Genghis Khan". Yes, I'm not kidding. And, umm, I really don't care about my birthday, you know that, so we could just doo the show, I guess! But anyhoo, here's a classic, but... REMIX Baby!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTOmQnHVv7w

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was Africa Mix which was a mash-up of a few African themed songs by Toto, Karl Wolf, Shakira and Akron. And as soon as we get a camera in here so you can watch us online, you too will get to see Shyla dancing in her chair. Though Leslie was also boogeying in that seat. Maybe it's the seat? Since we're doing odd versions of songs, here's one being sung by a seventy year old woman. Yes...seventy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqNcyFNMfLM

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla hums to the tune that fades out, "A cover! Of Pink's "Get the Party Started" song by Shirley Bassey which is funny since it is usually a younger singer who covers an older performer's work. I must admit that the two songs are different enough that they could both be looked at as two different songs! And since you threw in a 70 year old singer, I'm going to have to go the other way. And sorry, earworm alert." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o9oTYcVteM

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was Hanson with the Hex mix of Mmmbop. That's the kind of thing that gives witches a bad name. No witch would ever do a hex that evil. And nice avoiding the question about your birthday, Shyla. Okay, we'll be doing the show so I want you all to make sure to ring up next week to wish her a Happy Birthday. And if you see her on campus, do the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPeQGWL7fok

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla almost shouts, "Yazooooooooooooooo! Yes, that's their name and that was "Don't Go", not to be comfused with KC and the Sunshine Band's "Please Don't Go"! And if you wanna wish me a happy birthday, feel free, but you better not make me late for class. Or... oh ok, you can make me late for class, it's ok." A laugh, "Anyway since we have been sucked up by the 80s and 90s black hole, let's not rock the apple cart." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsJ_JjlRqoc

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was Sixpence None the Richer with their cover of The La's 'There She Goes'. Shyla certainly hates being late for class. If she ends up being even a second late she'll turn around and go do something else instead. She doesn't want to upset the rhythm of the class. I do love that KC and the Sunshine Band song. One of those that makes me weep when I'm in the mood. And don't get me started on 'Seasons in the Sun'. Which I /won't/ play because we're being cheery as we get close to the end of our show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36nWNAvtwrw

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla sounds a bit out of breath, she's probably singing along with the music! "That was... Pop Will Eat Itself with.. wait, that's their name? Talk about weird! Anyway, the song was "Can U Dig It?" which I'm sure we can all agree... yes, we can! And that isn't true, Sarah, I don't just avoid class if I'm late, geez. Well, ok, maybe if I was 5 minutes late or something. WHATEVER. Here, that last crazily named band reminds me of this song." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zUUtf7gOe8

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was one of our favorites here at SASS, Men Without Hats and 'Pop Goes the World'. Let's hope that doesn't happen anytime soon. So, for the three people interested, I spent my Spring Break working on an assignment, learning some new rituals and dancing way too much at some of the parties on campus. Though most of the other students had gone away. Here is a little bit more rocky song though still plenty of synths. And if ever get to hear the album this is from...remember albums...there is some awesome songs on there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bMM61Y5CEU

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla lowers her voice to make herself more intimidating, "Nemesis... NEMESIS!" then her voice is back to normal, "by Shriekback! Never heard of them! But that was a pretty cool tune, I like it. And I am glad you had fun at those parties, although I'm sure they don't play as great a selection as WE do here at SASS!" She pauses for a moment, as if there's going to be some cheering or something. Then the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6ImxY6hnfA&spfreload=10

<SJU Radio> Sarah and another of our favorites. Robyn with 'Call Your Girlfriend'. You know what we need, Shyla? Sound effects. We should have recorded cheering at the touch of a button. It's getting that time again, we're almost done. And that would be a place we /wouldn't/ play the cheering sound effect. These guys have a new song out but I'm playing this one again because it fits into our happy mood. We've played it before but...who cares? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YSxb7lP78Y

<SJU Radio> Ditzy DJ Shyla hmms, "Sound effects. You are quite right, like all those other radio stations, they always have a whole bunch of those. Like the bell, an animal noise, a wumpwap sound, and yes, cheering! Oh btw, that was "Happy Now" by Take That/Fake That... which is happy indeed! Anyway, good night everyone from ME, I'll be playing a real song before that bean ending song. Hope you all had a great spring break... and keep those picts coming." A pause. "I'm, err, winking right now. Did it again." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4W5SLIbbMs4

<SJU Radio> Sarah says, "That was a...umm...metal version of 'Man in Motion' open bracket 'Saint Elmo's Fire' close bracket by John Parr. Is it actually John Parr? Didn't sound like it. And Shyla is right. Send in those Picts...and the Scots...and the Celts. As usual, we'll end our program with Mother Goose and 'Baked Beans'. Though, to stop Shyla going insane, we might mix it up a bit in the furture. Doctor Love can play it at the end of his show. Midnight doesn't have to play it. Goodnight, Fallcoast. Party on! And don't forget Shyla's birthday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HhR7zKgRSs
