A Night at the Museum
Dramatis Personae

Neferet, Milo, Ritter, Harrison

4 November, 2016

Ritter and Milo meet on visiting the Museum of Egyptology at the same time, and are welcomed by Neferet. Milo runs into a favorite relative, Harrison.

Location

The Museum of Egyptology

Upon entering this room, the great library, one really gets a sense that they may have been transported back into an era long past. The library is reminiscent of one that existed once in Alexandria at the height of knowledge. This deep into the earth the ceiling is vaulted fifty feet. At first entrance a scholar would be met by a desk with an open book for scribing their name as visitor. An index sets beside the desk, used to locate the tome one seeks. The chamber is built in a grand circle with books lining the walls forty feet high and divided into sections which at first might seem complicated; difficult to locate the desired volumes.

Tall shelves criss cross the room, also forty feet high with rolling ladders emplaced to reach any volume required. The tomes are in a very specific allocation, but either utilizing the index (which is also confusing) or requesting assistance from an acolyte is the quickest way to find what one wishes.

Several tables are located through out the library, allowing study or debate in quiet. The wood is dark, sturdy, and elegant with chairs to match; red cushioned seats quite comfortable. Similar chairs are also situated in groups within the great library. Finally in the very center of the room where four corridors between the shelves find a crossing rests a large, circular, royal purple rug embroidered with a golden Eye of Ra.

Worldweary - both the first word and the most accurate that comes to mind, with Ritter. He's not old; there's no gray in the short, reddish-brown hair, and the lines on his face are only those of middle age. But it's clearly been a hard road to reach that point, and his air of watchful stillness does nothing to detract from that impression. Broad and rough of feature, with a large nose, heavylidded pale eyes, a lantern jaw, skin very fair despite the weathering. He's tall, with the sort of build that might've once been described as lanky, before some kind of hard labor laid down muscle in shoulders and back.

His clothes are always dark and plain, utterly without ornament, nothing that stands out. He does, however, wear a silver ring on the middle finger of his left hand, adorned with St. James's cross in red enamel, and the silver scallop shell of the pilgrims of Santiago. The ring finger next it bears a heavy tungsten wedding band, inlaid with an intricate dragon knotwork.

A young woman appearing to have just emerged from her teenage years and blossomed into womanhood, Neferet carries herself with confidence and dignity. Her complexion is a creamy mocha shade like delicious cafe au lait. Raven colored hair falls in gentle waves to brush her shoulders and back. She has a regal countenance with fine features are accented by the high line of brows and long full lashes. Hazel colored eyes allow a glimpse into her mood as they seem to change hue along with disposition. Her lips are glossy, just a shade darker than natural and eyelids are colored gold with dark liner; fingernails perfectly manicured and painted gold. In her lobes are a pair of gold dangle earrings.

What can best be described as a bandana of glittering gold falls over her petite frame, covering almost nothing at all and allowing a great expanse of bare flesh be displayed. Black leather hugs her legs and full assets like a second skin, ending just above the ankles. Glittering gold New York pumps grace her delicate feet and accentuate curve of her...back. Neferet wears gold jewelry including several bangles on her thin arms, a chain around her slim waist, and a pendant with the eye of Ra.

The museum is closed actually, and yet Ritter is met by James. The dark skinned man as always wears a fine and expensive suit. He bows with respect and leads them through the re-constructed temple of Karnak and down into the earth. James leads them through the -actual- temple of Ra, right to the heavy doors leading into the library. Here the tall rows of bookshelves are partially filled with books, much room left for more. In fact, Neferet seems to be in the middle of doing just this as she directs members of staff, going over books to catalog them and place on shelves. Hazel eyes lift at the arrival of these two men. "Welcome, friends."

Milo nods in greeting respectfully, "Thank you, and well met. This is a beautiful museum, I should make a donation to help preserve the beauty here." He leans on his titanium cane a bit as a strong spasm travels through his leg and he grimaces. "Pardon, a parting 'gift' from Helmand province, over in Afghanistan."

He's broken out his comfy old greatcoat, so Ritter's swathed in gray wool, and a white silk scarf, over jeans and a t-shirt. He looks much the same as he did in Afghanistan - maybe a little older, the lines on his face a little deeper. "Thank you," he says to Neferet, graciously. Milo, however, gets a subtle double-take. "I remember you," he says, slowly. "Cavanaugh, wasn't it?"

Milo nods, smiling. "Yep. Milo. You might remember me, or not. Just one more butterbar lt among a sea of them it seemed. I was in military intelligence, out of Fort Harmon. Umm, Ritter, right?"

Surprised, just slightly, Neferet is curious as she thought they had come together. James will be in trouble later. Ritter is known, but she has no idea who Milo is. The dark lady dismisses her staff and they disappear through the heavy door. "Welcome, Doctor. And Welcome Mr. Cavenaugh? Really? You might know my very good friend Harrison Cavenaugh." she mentions as her hazel gaze moves between the two men. "So I suppose family of his is friend of mine. Would you gentlemen like to sit? A drink perhaps?" as Neferet steps over to a large and sturdy oak table, sliding the books on it to one end out of the way.

Ritter's smile is slow, but genuine. "I believe it was. Glad to see you again, too bad you've taken home an unfortunate souvenir." He bows a little to Neferet. "A drink'd be lovely, thanks. Whisky if you've got it, water if not." HE lets Milo seat himself first.

Milo smiles, "Thank you. Harrison is a good friend to have, and a good man. I've always though so, since back before I went to West Point. Emily is chip off the good block too, good people both of them. I stopped by because I've just returned, um, some travel after my service, and am interested in supporting worthy Fallcoast institutions. With my fascination of Egyptology, and their views on the spirit world, the Museum is high on my list of priorities. Assuming you are welcoming additional donations?". This last is said with a smile...all museums are always welcoming donations, or at least usually. "I'd love a drink, and will leave the choice to you. I like surprises...well, most surprises."

"OF course, Doctor." she replies with an incline of her head. No words are spoken and yet a Japanese woman seems to materialize from the shadows, there to serve the Egyptian goddess. "Whiskey, Jun. Three glasses. Harrison will be joining us soon." Neferet says and the other young woman slips away to do as bid. "You have interest in Egyptology? That is great. Donations are greaty appreciated. I am hoping to build the library here even greater. I have hundreds of books coming in every week. Most of it contains history from all around the world at the moment and some other more esoteric topics." she tells Milo before suddenly blushing. Well she would blush if she could. "Where are my manners? I am called Neferet." the dark lady tells him with a curtsey. What they don't realize is that she has summoned Harrison to her side and he is already on his way.

Milo bows, in a gentile perfectly executed way, and introduces himself, smiling in a friendly way, "Milo Cavanaugh, at your service, and from what I've seen your manners are quite polished. I've memory issues, so if I forget please remind me before I go, but I'd be happy to cut you a check for fifty-thousand tonight, which should be a small but good start. I'm sure I could organize a gala to help pull in donations as well, if that would be of interest."

And sure enough, there in the doorway is Harrison. He smiles at Jun as he passes her buy, before making his way into the priestess' chamber. His eyes move immediately to Neferet, a warm smile on his face... but then snap over to Milo - moving appraisingly past Ritter on the way. "Milo, Is that you? What are you doing back in town, cousin?" He loops by Neferet to give the woman a kiss on the cheek - after all one does NOT great a gorgeous lady such as her SECOND... and then comes over to go to offer Milo his hand.

Rugged. Powerful. Cop. Harrison just /looks/ like a cop. Or a thug. But he's clean-shaven and most thugs are not. He's also in his 40s... when most thugs would have a lot more scars. With the traditional Cavanaugh chin, this 5'11"-tall man's heritage comes through clear as day - although most Cavanaughs don't have the same sort of ruggedness that Harrison has. He's not particularly handsome, although the confidence with which he stands certainly makes up for that and then some, and he is not unpleasant to look at, either. It's his eyes that are next thing to draw attention in most. Deep cerulean blue. Intensely perceptive. Taking everything in with what seems to be a deep appreciate of form and location - as if he were judging the distance to every object around him at all times with that incredibly blue gaze. Short black hair rests atop his head, clean and in crew cut style - in keeping with the cop-or-thug motif.

Harrison is dressed in a fine midnight blue Hugo Boss suit, well-tailored to fit him almost as well as a bespoke set of clothes. The fabric is rather rugged, allowing the detective to do his job without worrying about what happens to his clothes. A lighter button-down shirt clearly picked to match his eyes - and with a chest as broad as his, it does show off his vee-shaped form nicely. His silk tie is a darker blue with no designs apparent, as well, picked to match the suit, and is slightly open at the collar - as is the top button of his shirt. A more relaxed way to wear a suit all day. At his belt... the gold-colored glint of a Fallcoast Police Department detective badge is evident, facing out on the left hand side. On the right hand side... his sidearm in a belt holster with the safety strap on. Adorning his feet are a pair of well-kept-and-clean comfortable-looking black sneakers - sensible footwear for a man who spends a lot of time on his feet.

"I didn't realize you were one of the local Cavanaughs," Ritter admits, rather sheepishly. He's unbent enough to unbutton his coat and unwrap his scarf, settling comfortably. He cocks an eye at Milo. "The spirit world, eh?" he asks. There's a gleam of amusement in the pale eyes.

Milo looks to Harrison, at his voice, "Harrison! It is good to see you. A lot to catch up on, but I got discharged on medical and am back home to stay. It was...rough over there. Don't know if you heard about the Dishu bridge massacre? That was my unit." He shudders, closing his eyes momentarily, then takes Harrison's hand and shakes it, firmly but not roughly.

"The spirit world...do you speak of the lands ruled by Osiris? Or of something else?" Neferet asks in a soft voice with attention on Milo for now. "Of course, you are most generous, Mr. Cavanaugh. It will be put to great use, sir." she tells the man and offers a smile to Harrison. "Hello, Detective. Welcome." the Nubian princess says and leans in slightly to accept the kiss on her cheek. "A gala would be amazing. I would most certainly love to have an event to bring the museum more attention." It doesn't take long for Jun to return and the young woman sets a tray down with a bottle of expensive Whiskey, three empty glasses, and one containing a dark red 'wine' as it would seem. The Japanese woman pours three glasses and offers one to each man. Then she disappears again. "Doctor, how is your husband and lovely daughter?" she asks Ritter as the cousins talk for a moment.

Ritter is clearly eavesdropping more than a little on the two mortals, but he t urns to Neferet with a soft smile. "Very well. Chloe's doing very well in kindergarten. Jesse's out of town for a professional conference, at the moment, or he'd be here with me. And you, how are you doing?" Being undead and all, he does not add. Manners, manners.

Milo remembers the event that happened a year ago..a military intelligence unit was massacred, supposedly by the Taliban, and hung from a bridge in Dishu. The bodies were never found, though a crazy local told reporters about a strange hole in the sky that the bodies were thrown into by their killers, and weird things moving in the hole.”

Harrison shakes Milo's hand once, before saying, "It's good to see you, cousin... let's definitely have lunch and catch up..." He then moves to offer Ritter his hand, as well. "Hello, Doctor. Detective Cavanaugh, Fallcoast Police Department." He moves to stand right up next to Neferet as he offers Ritter his hand, clearly either thinking himself her bodyguard - or at least someone close to her.

Milo sips his whiskey, collecting his thoughts. "I am interested in the legends of all the different realms of Spirit, including the Duat. Who knows, perhaps they all exist, maybe even parts of one big amorphous realm.", he says, after a moment.

Which does not go unnoticed, that assumption of closeness. But Ritter doesn't remark on it. HE takes the offered hand and shakes it firmly. "Godric Ritter," he says, pleasantly. The accent's northern England, if somewhat burnished to make it more intelligible to American ears. "I work in the ER at Saint John's," he explains. A nod to Milo. "I was, however, in the British army for some years, which is where I know your....cousin, was it? from." A thoughtful nod at Milo, but no comment.

Extending a well manicured hand to lift her glass, the dark red wine doesn't exactly move like wine in truth. It is thicker. "Oh, that is great. She is such a smart little girl." Neferet remarks with a warm smile for Ritter. "Quiet, actually. I like it that way, though. It allows me to continue my work." she says, lifting the glass to her lips to sip the crimson contents. Her attention shifts from

Ritter to Milo and she hmms, "I am interested in the lands of Duat as well. I hope some day to be able to study them more in depth. For now I will read what I can find on the subject." All of these men speak of being in the military...if only they knew her past fighting against the Romans. "This is an interesting gathering of individuals..."

Harrison shakes Ritter's hand firmly back once, before saying, "The ER? Well, I don't usually transport anymore... I'm more of the sniper up on high when we do ops - I'm on SWAT - but maybe we'll run into each other sometime. And yes, Milo is my cousin." Taking one of the glasses from Jun, he gives her a quiet thanks, before sipping on the liquid. "Both of you in the military... I never did serve outside the country, but had considered it. But I fell in love and got married, had a kid... so decided to settle down - and that was a long time ago."

Milo smiles, "Interesting people and locales tend to become centers of gravity for other interesting people, and interesting events. You seem an extremely interesting person, so such a gathering is no wonder, no? As for your hope..I am in negotiations to purchase a large number of volumes on the various spirit realms and their denizens, though it will be some time before the deals are done and the books actually arrive. I'd be happy to let you research with it, when I get it set up. And you come Harrison that will also give us more time to catch up." He looks at Harrison at his last comment, and says "Right..How is Emily these days? I hope well."

In the grim future of grumpy old Englishmen, there is only war. Ritter's got something of a pokerface on, beneath the veneer of polite interest. "I'm sure," he agrees with Harrison, mildly. To Milo, he wonders, "What spurred this interest, if I may ask?"

"I suppose you are correct in that, Mr. Cavanaugh." she responds with an incline of her head as Neferet offers Milo a curl of glossy pink lips into a smile. "Such books sound wonderful. I am searching for similar now. I have a few leads." she tells the man and casts Harrison a glance with those vibrant hazel eyes before sitting down at the table. "What of the relics so abundant in Egyptology? Are you a seeker of these as well?" Neferet asks him before sipping her drink.

Milo now is the one to wear a poker face, "I had hallucinations, or something, on the bridge at Dishu. The details are still too raw to speak of, and there are holes in my memory. But it has left me with a profound interest in all things Spirit and underworld."

Milo looks to Neferet, "A part of me wishes to be yes..the relics have such a storied past, but then I come to my senses. They are not mine to collect, and I wish no disrespect to the memory of the craftsmen and women who made them, or whose journeys to Duat the relics were to ease. So no, just books, as far as Egyptology goes."

Harrison excuses himself for a bit. Ritter's listening to the vampire and the mage thoughtfully, head cocked a little. HE doesn't press at the question of those memories. "I see," he says, musingly.

Milo focuses his supernal vision for a moment on Ritter and Neferet.. it pays to cast those daily spells!

Ritter's mostly calm, but curious.....but his aura has this bizarre translucent green overlay, with weird little opalescent gleams in it. It's reminiscent of a spirit's aura, if Milo's ever seen one. And is that an active spell, or an Attainment?

Neferet's aura is obviously pale but with light blue (calm), some lavender (conservative), and a whole lot of gold (spiritual)”

When Harrison excuses himself, Neferet watches him depart for just a moment, but then turns her gaze back on her guests. "That is a very valid point of view. Rather refreshing to meet somebody with respect of the sort." the dark lady tells Milo with a tilt of her head at the man. "Actually...I am seeking something lost to me. An amulet in the shape of a gold scarab with a red jewel set in the center. It is my purpose to be here in Fallcoast in fact..."

Milo nods, looks at Neferet for a moment, weighing..things. After only the short moment he says "I will have my people keep an eye out for it, and promise to return it to you should I find it. I would love a chance to study some of the more..esoteric...acquisitions of the museum in depth in return, if that seems like a fair trade."

Ritter is looking down into his glass of whisky, more sphinxish than ever...not glancing up at either mage or vampire. "I have some," he says, slowly, "Facility in finding what's lost. I shall also keep an eye out for it. Do you have an image of it?"

"My thanks, Mr. Cavanaugh. Of course you are welcome to make use of my library as long as I am present. In fact I have a few volumes on relics as well..." she says with a nod to the man, then turns her attention to Ritter, "Truly? That would be wonderful." However asking her if she has an image, Neferet hesitates. "No, not any I know of..." considering it was last seen almost 1700 years ago. "I will be gathering a small group of people in hopes of locating it. I spent vast resources and time narrowing the search to Southern Maine."

Milo yawns slightly, then smiles. "It has been a long day. Let me write you that check, and then I think I had best be heading home, despite the fascinating conversation this is. Ritter, you and I should go for a drink sometime, if you're up for that? Just drop me a line via any of the Cavanaugh businesses, or via the main house. Neferet, I am very pleased we met, and look forward to talking with again soon." He then proceeds to write a check for $50,000 dollars (i.e. the October 4 dots from his resources)

"I'd love to," says the old Immortal, grinning. Never mind that he can drink pretty much anyone under the table. "And I'll ring you up."

"Thank you, Mr. Cavanaugh. I am pleased to have met you as well. Come back some time when you have ample to spend." Neferet says to Milo with a slight bow to the man. "You are most generous. You have my thanks, and I only with the meeting wasn't over so quickly. Thank you for coming. Next time I will give you a grand tour of the museum and temple..."

Milo nods, "Thank you, and I would like that."

Neferet also offers a bow of her head to Ritter, "It was good seeing you again Doctor. We should talk some time about more...serious matters."

Milo bows, and exits.
