The Union are the blue collar side of Hunting. They never imagined they would do this kind of thing. They never grew up wondering about monsters and what could be out there. They intended to have simple lives, working when they could, raising families and enjoying a beer every now and then. Until the Supernatural World came crashing into theirs and everything changed.
The Union are neighbourhood protectors. They protect 'their' people - the people they grew up with, the people who live on the same streets they do, the people they may be related to. Leave them alone and the Union rarely seek trouble. Screw them over and the Union won't stop until you pay for your transgressions.
Playing The Union
- The Union's priority is to protect their neighbourhood, their patch. How big that patch is can vary but they will not abandon it for any reason.
- Most Union won't interfere with activities outside their neighbourhood but if convinced they could be next they will rally the troops.
- Union PCs are usually working class people trying to get through life as best they can. They did not want this but they won't stop protecting their people until they die.
- Union PCs are quite open to helping out others, as long as it doesn't leave their neighbourhood unprotected, but they are wary of the Conspriacies. Big business (Cheiron) and big government (TFV), for example, have done little for them in return.
The Union IC
Crash and Burn Junkyard - A Union hangout where the Cerberus Cell is based. The sphere wide lair, The Kennel, is located beneath it.
Becoming a member of The Union
The Union is a compact that is reasonably easy to join. it is almost a de facto destination for those who stumble upon the Darkness and decide to take up arms against a sea of troubles. It's primary goal is to protect their 'patch' so Becomings should be based around a PC finding something in their backyard, perhaps literally, and both opposing the bad and attempting to find help amongst friends and neighbors.
Unlike the international Conspiracies, the Union is more a collection of neighborhood watch units which will meet every now and then...maybe. This means there is no formal hierarchy to be approved by and no exams but also little training. If you want to protect your neighborhood...and you can be discrete (and useful)...then you're in.
Though balanced with this open attitude to recruitment are the suspicions and wariness of the average Union member. New recruits will be watched to ensure they are not spies (or worse) and they will be expected to contribute when needed. Meeting other Union PCs is not required before a Becoming though the good word of an old hand would certainly help.
You Don't Get Me I'm Part of the Union
Your Friends and Neighbors (1 to 5 dots)
The Union allow Psychics into their ranks and the following Thaumaturges: Hedge Witches, Taoist Alchemist, Voudon. Keep in mind that though they are allowed they will be viewed with slight suspicion. The Union is about the common man and some will have prejudices against anything that is different.
IMPORTANT: To be a member of a faction you must have at least one dot in the skill that the specialty applies to. People in that faction automatically get the relevant specialty because all of their operatives are expected to need it through the work they do. Therefore, since you cannot have a specialty without a dot in the skill attached, PCs should have the relevant skill when selecting a faction.
