Summary

Court Goodwill serves to allow a Changeling of one Court a mechanical measurement of another Court's regard for her or him (CtL, pp. 94, pp. 124). Court Goodwill on Fallcoast cannot be purchased with XP; it is instead voted upon by all members of the Court in question. Note: this should probably be taken as read, but just in case it's necessary: because of the nature of how Goodwill is awarded on Fallcoast, it is not available at Chargen.

Court Goodwill is an IC construct, and should be based on a PC's in-character impression of and regard for the requesting character. If a majority of a Court's members support it, Goodwill is relatively easy to earn. Please bear in mind, however, that Goodwill is not a fixed state. Once earned, it is possible to lose Goodwill, handled via the same method as it's earned (and can be requested by the PC in question or by a member of the Court).

Procedure

+request <Court> Goodwill=<Details>

<Details> should be your supporting arguments for Goodwill to the level you're requesting. Remember that you are pitching this to the Court PCs, not to Staff nor players, so include details relevant to those PCs. Staff will open a +vote to the Court PCs, including your justification, and will tally the votes (either after all votes are in or one week, whichever comes first), weighted by each PC's Mantle. Staff will add the requested Goodwill to your +sheet if the following conditions are met:

Level 1-2: Simple majority with 'Abstain' votes discarded entirely. Level 3-5: Simple majority with 'Abstain' votes counted toward the total.

Note: If a Court is not actively in play in the area (Example: Directional Courts), Staff will require a PrP to earn Goodwill, versus the +vote, as there will of course be no PCs to poll.

Voting

If you are voting on Goodwill, you will choose one of the following three options:

Yes: If you feel that the requested Goodwill is justified.
No: If you feel that the requested Goodwill is NOT justified.
Abstain: If you do not know the PC or do not feel strongly either way.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Goodwill voting should not be about any relationships to any Freehold. This is strictly a Court matter.
  • Goodwill voting should not be about OOC issues with a player: again, it is an in-character assessment.
  • Goodwill voting should not be an OOC popularity contest: it's a measure of the PC's IC relationship to the Court as a whole.
