Biographical Data
xxxxxWilliam Abernathy is a local who apparently joined the military and recently returned to Fallcoast. He's descended from Janice Abernathy, apparently. There isn't a ton that's common knowledge about him. He went to school in a private boarding school outside of Fallcoast, didn't have much to do with the locals, and recently returned probably to suck on the wealthy teet of his family. He keeps strange hours and stranger company.
Changeling Info
xxxxxWilliam 'Billy' Abernathy appeared on the Lost scene about 10 years ago in Flagstaff, Arizona. He initially joined the Spring Court there, and spent a little bit of time before moving on to Phoenix. There, he met a guy who called himself "Redact," who was a noted member of the Winter Court and a member of the Squires of the Broken Bough. The two of them set a trap for a pair of Loyalists in Phoenix, killed one and managed to capture the other to be brought before the Summer King. After the Loyalist's execution, the pair moved on to Tucson. They popped up along the road east, appearing in San Antonio, Jacksonville, Atlanta, Charlotte, and finally New York City.

xxxxxIn New York, Billy and Redact became members of the Freehold that held sway over Manhattan. Billy spoke to the Spring King and gave up his association with that Court in favor of Winter, after performing a series of tests and trials for the Onyx Court. This is also where Billy took his first oath to become a Squire of the Broken Bough. As a Martyr, he worked heavily in New York, setting up safehouses and semi-bunkers with the rest of his Court for members of the Freehold. He mapped out the alleyways and known Hedge Gates so that – in case of danger – the members of the Freehold could get somewhere safe and hidden very quickly. As New York City was often a hotbed of danger, he was consistently forced to reckon with the various threats that would do the Lost harm. xxxxxA year and a day following his Freehold pledge in New York, he left the city with Redact for Boston. The two of them parted ways, and Billy made his way back home to Fallcoast.

Frailties and Faults

xxxxxPossibly the most noticeable thing about Billy is his inability to stop telling a story once he begins. It's also difficult for him to not give his opinion. This has to do with the Empress Bathed in Starlight, his Keeper. While violence is part and parcel to enduring a Durance, one thing that the Empress will often do to Her Lost that misbehave or otherwise cause problems for Her is provide them with Frailties. Any Lost who suffers a Durance in Harbourside Underworld (the name of the Empress' Realm) will almost always have some sort of Frailty. Billy's happens to be this, along with his almost complete inability to lie.

Current Events

xxxxxLike his Entitlement usually works, Billy happened to show up at the Freehold of Sentinel Rock when it was in grave danger and rocked by an intense amount of change. Since then, he's been working with the various Courts in assisting with fighting against enemies of the Freehold; he fought in the Battle of the Junkyard Maze, leading the tunnel party alongside the Summer Regent. He was also present during the Spring Crowning, and assisted in getting people away from the Gentry that showed up to the event. He and Rhys assisted the new Spring Monarchs in getting to safety.

xxxxxSince the Crowning, he's been working with Yasen and Owen at creating a scouting task force that will enter the Hedge to search out and mark enemies of the Freehold, despite not being an Archer of the Silent March. This has included Pledgecrafting and working with a collection of Courtiers to try to get this started.

xxxxxHis mortal life is more or less ignored, though he spends some time around his family. While this is a quick path to Bedlam, it's unclear if it's affected him or his judgment.

xxxxxDue to him being a Squire of the Broken Bough, Billy was called away to defend a Freehold in Seattle (the Freehold of Sea's Folly) for about two months. He took a bullet in the throat and had to spend time to heal up the wound, then traveled around before returning to Fallcoast alongside a couple others he brought back with him.

xxxxxBilly would most likely serve as a fairly decent example of why not to throw yourself at your fae side. His sanity is questionable, and he appears less and less comfortable around humans as time goes on. While his recent transformation into what appears to be an urban myth (the so-called "shadow people") has apparently concluded, he still focuses too much energy on being a Changeling and very little on attempting to remain human, probably to his detriment.

  • Changeling: Billy is very invested in the Lost community, even if not politically.
  • Squire of the Broken Bough: Billy is Sergeant (this more or less means nothing in Fallcoast) of the Squires of the Broken Bough, inducted in New York City.
  • Abernathy: Billy's one of those weird Abernathy types.
  • Arizona: Billy emerged from the Hedge in Arizona in 2006, where he spent a decent amount of time in Flagstaff. He had a Motley which was apparently eradicated by a Loyalist who had infiltrated the Motley, according to rumor. That Loyalist was found murdered in Phoenix; Billy happened to be in Phoenix at the time.
  • World War 2: Billy was a Gunnery Sergeant in the 1st Marine Division, fighting in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
  • New York & Boston: If you lived in New York City or Boston for a while, you'd probably know Billy, at least in passing. He was pretty active in New York City especially.
  • Winter: Billy is a member of the Winter Court! Let's hide together and plot and speak in the Cant.
  • The Occult: Billy's incredibly interested in all things occult. He has a particular interest in folklore, and will try to seek people out who know about those sorts of things. If you're a folklore expert, or if you just know about matters occult, you should check him out! Also, this is basically a given, considering he's an Abernathy.
  • Fencer: Not the type that sells stolen goods. Billy is a practiced fencer, and can help train people in the art of stabbing.

Humans (or whatever they feel like calling themselves)

  • Arsonist's Lullabye by Hozier, When I was sixteen my senses fooled me. I thought gasoline was on my clothes; I knew that something would always rule me. I knew the scent was mine alone. All you have is your fire, and the place you need to reach. Don't you ever tame your demons, but always keep them on a leash.
  • Obsessive Compulsive Distraction by Into It. Over it., Because I'm falling in focus; I'm landing inside a blur. Are you sure that I'll be forgetful forever? Will I be forgetful forever? Memory lost and sorted -- rerun the process over.
  • Stay Happy There by La Dispute, Don't be shy. Don't be kind. Somewhere snow collects and bends the boughs of pines. But doesn't it seem a bit wasteful to you to throw away all of the time we spent perfecting our love in close quarters and confines? Isn't it wasteful? And I am terrified that it doesn't feel painful to me yet; somewhere on top of the high rise there's a woman on the edge of a building at the ledge and traffic's backing up on 35.
  • Say Nothing by Pianos Become The Teeth, I thought about the rust, the quote on the ledge about living on "that great consciousness of life." Oh, what we frame and hang to get by, whatever keeps your heart light, whatever keeps you is all right by me, but maybe I don't want to talk about how this life laid me down, or how I saw the change because I didn't see you everyday, unspoken looks and what the leaving took, a lack of noise isn't a lack of life.
  • Needy by The Good Life, And lately I've been living on my own. And I've fucked up so many times, I'm better off alone.
  • In The Pines as performed by Janel Drewis, You've caused me to weep, you've caused me to mourn; you caused me to lose my home.
