“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.”

– John Stuart Mill

“Forward, the Light Brigade! Was there a man dismayed? Not though the soldier knew someone had blundered. Theirs not to make reply, theirs not to reason why, theirs but to do and die. Into the Valley of Death rode the six hundred.”

– Lord Alfred Tennyson

  • Anais (Ah-nah-EES) is a remedial student at St. John's. Are you a student? Do you want to try tutoring her?
  • Want to have your future predicted? Even in the most trivial of ways. Anais doesn't do readings, but she can't help seeing omens.
  • Annie is a skilled warrior, particularly in the use of spears and staves. She is quite nimble and likes to test her strength of arms. It's an odd skill to have in this day and age.
  • New Identity: Anais's current identity is just a shell. It was enough to enroll in school but if she wants one that will stand up to serious background checks she has a lot of work to do.

Beyond the Hedge

  • Anais was an Oracle, serving her Keeper reading portents in the flights of birds which often circled a battlefield. She still retains many of these powers.
  • After angering her Keeper with a false reading of the future Anais spent much of her Durance in the form of a gyrfalcon as penance. She served as a Herald and a Harbinger, an omen of terror and death. He eventually returned her to the form he'd chosen for her but took one of her wings and left her a confused and broken echo of her former self, thoughts muddled by the instincts of a bird-of-prey.
  • Following her time in Arcadia in some way Anais views her own existence is proof of a terrible end. She has chosen to embrace this and make the most of the future by joining with the Dusk Court. Tomorrow has not yet come.

Where Do We Draw the Line?Poets of the Fall

What does tomorrow want from me? What does it matter what I see?
If it can't be my design, tell me, where do we draw the line?
Whatever tomorrow wants from me - at least I'm here, at least I'm free!
Free to choose to see the signs. This is my line.
